Amazon.com are now listing the publication date for book 10 of the Night World series, Strange Fate, as 6th April, 2010. Most of us in the fandom are probably prepared for this date to be shifted at any given moment, but this time we do have a cover to keep us going as we wait. You can view a larger version by clicking on the image.
I don’t know about anyone else, but when I zoom in on the image on the Amazon page, the girl on the cover seems to be sporting a rather Hannah-like birthmark smudge on her face. Though everyone seems to be going with the ‘bad blush in photoshop’ theory, so I’ll go with the masses on that. ;)
UPDATE: Strange Fate now set for publication in April, 2011. Sorry, guys.

When you enlarge it, it looks like it’s on both cheeks, and the lips are tinted too, so I’m hoping it’s blush and not a lying cover. :)

Strange Fate has been published. It was originally published in 1997. Seeing as how it’s basically impossible to find a copy of the original print we just have to wait for the reprint.

No, it was supposed to be published back in 1999, but due to illness in the family, LJS never finished writing it. Since she came back in 2008, she’s working on a new version of Strange Fate. We’ll never see the original version, and now we’re waiting on the new version. It’s well-documented in her blog and website (including a story involving one of the new characters that will be in the book) that that’s what’s happening.

it isnt hannah, i remember reading the blurb for this book a few years ago and its a completely different girl..unless shes changed the story entirely from the one she planned 5 years ago, but i doubt she changed the planned characters. never know though :P
last i heard, strange fate was about some blonde chick called sara strange..and she has two soulmates. so thats who it must be on the cover

Yeah, going by things that LJS has said, Strange Fate seems to have undergone some drastic changes since the original was planned. I believe Sarah Strange is still in it, though some gal named Brionwy also seems to be featured a lot.

Well, it fits with the recent omnibus editions (in theme and size from what I can gather), so they’re sticking with that theme. Sigh. I want them to release a limited edition run of the originally planned US and UK covers so we older fans can complete our sets. :D

just wanted to say how much i have loved the twilight series so far. i recently discovered them (about a month ago) and am depressed that i will have to wait until april 2010 to read the next book. i just finished the 3rd one before i started my letter to you. i love to read but rarely find a book and/or series that have held me captivated like the twilight series has. if you can release the final book sooner i would be thrilled.

I’ve just bought the new nw companion thats out and in that lj says she’s bringing back characters from ALL the nw books for the final battle, she hints at Ash and Hannah in particular so that COULD well be her on the cover.

I’ve been waiting 12 years for this book now, 12 whole years! Obviously I’m not in the target age group any more, but I’ve been waiting so long I need to read this, now! From what I can tell, the story has changed a lot from that original synopsis which I’ve been clinging to for years which mentions a choice by Sarah between two soulmates: Blade, a vampire, and Keirlan Harman who was suppossed to be the 4th Wild Power.
Being the big geek that I am, I bought the Ultimate Fan Guide for the sneak preview chapter of the new Strange Fate and Keirlan has changed surname and race to Keirlan DRACHE (I assume he’s some relation to Galen from Witchlight) and there’s a new character called Mal Harman.
I guess the story had to change so much because L.J. didn’t publish before the millennium and a lot of the main plot seemed to revolve on that. I hope it’ll be worth the wait now and that it’s a fitting ending to the series. I’d be so dissapointed if it’s not

Uuh, some author alert email, I lose track because I get so much Vampire Diaries stuff in my inbox. You’ll note that it’s been removed from pre-order from Amazon, and that Simon & Schuster (the publishers) have removed it from their site, and yet still have The Forbidden Game listed (which is due for reprint in June). I doubt we’re likely to see it until a few months after the next Vampire Diaries book has been published.

I can’t wait for Strange Fate. I’ve only been waiting a few months for it to come out because I have just recently heard of Night World. I finished all the books in a couple weeks! I was a huuuuge fan of The Twilight Series, I loved all of Stephanie Meyer’s books, they were great. Then my bff showed me Night World, and I fell in love with that instead of Twilight ( and I’ve seriously read Twilight and all the other books 15 times, no joke). I really love Night World, and even though I only found out about it a couple months ago, I really want Strange Fate to come out right now! I hope the news saying it’s going to be released in 2011 is not true, cuz that would really suck T_T .

I had the book on preorder with Barnes and Noble with a April 6, 2010 release date. They have now cancelled the order without any explanation. Their website now shows a release date of April 2011. None of my emails to Simon & Schuster have been answered. I get error messages when I try to send emails to L. J. Smith or her agent. I am thoroughly disgusted!!! I will definitely not read any more of her books and I know of a lot of other unhappy readers who have said the same thing. Why in the world would an author release a new trilogy before finishing a series that was started years and years ago? The thing that bothers me the most is that neither L. J. Smith or the publisher, Simon & Schuster, have addressed this problem. They know that the readers want to know what’s going on, but apparently they don’t care.

Every character has a part in Strange Fate, and its quite a long book. Shes trying to finish Vampire Diaries first though, which i dont agree with. Not all of it is about Sarah Strange and her two soulmates, one from the day world and one from the night.
(Weird because I know the girl on the front cover, and she says that it is just blush and was never meant to look like Hannah. If i grew my hair we’d look alike ;))
Apparently the apocolypse is in it, and the fight as well as the last Wild Power choosing her side. She is the ‘One from the twilight, to be one with the dark.’ so it seems to me as if she chooses the dark side.

I’ve been hooked on the Night World series for only less than a month, but I’ve read the first six books and am getting a headstart on the last three. I haven’t had to wait for Strange Fate as long as the others, but I really, really hope it gets to be published before the end of this year at least. I’ll go stir crazy if it does not get printed before that. But at least we know it’s written already.
And as for those who have mentioned Smith having to finish the Vampire Diaries series first, well, one can’t deny that those books are the ones getting most attention now. Probably the publishers want those finished first because they think it’ll draw in more crowd. But really, I’ve heard of readers who have waited more than a decade for the release of Strange Fate. That’s just plain torture for the fans, and meanness from the publishers. Don’t they realize that they will lose fans from the ever-changing release date?
Maybe somebody should let Smith’s agent of publisher see this page. I think this is just one of many pages that discuss the unstable release date of the dang book.

I started reading the Night World books when I was a teenager, maybe 13 or 14. I am now 28. When I saw that the 10th book was gonna be published I did get a bit excited but I’m not gonna bother now. LJ Smith is obviously in it for the money not the satisfaction of writing a good book so it’ll probably turn out to be rubbish anyway. What a complete waste of my money buying those books all those years ago.

I LOVE THE NIGHT WORLD BOOKS!!! I have only just found the night world books a little over a year ago but I love them all the same. I can’t believe the first few books came out before I was born! But even though I’m only 13 I am a bookworm, really. I can’t stand the wait and I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to all of those who read the books when they first came out. The Ultimate Fan Guide was published in 2009 (both US and UK), and that suggests that Strange Fate is to be released shortly, which isn’t really saying anything, as they’ve been saying that for twelve years!
I feel so so so sorry for all the fans who have waited that long, personally, I’ve just finished the first nine books this morning, and I’M getting impatient, so I can’t imagine what it must be like for all the long-lost fans.
I’m trying to read up on all the info I can get on it really, and probably email LJSmith, seen as in the guide, it DOES say that she likes to get emails from fans ¬_¬
I just hope it’s released soon! Everything suggests that it is finished, but I hadn’t heard before that she was waiting until finishing TVD trilogy, which the final book of is supposed to be getting published later this year, so maybe we will have to wait until 2011!

I think that LJ Smith has been done with the book for a while now, but her publisher keeps putting it off. That’s what I heard somewhere else, anyways. This is the second series that I have had to wait years for the final book. The first was The Wicked series by Debbie Viguie and Nancy Holder. I had to wait over 3 years. For this one, I finished the 9th book about two years ago. This is ridiculous. I’m going to buy it when it comes out, but we shouldn’t have to wait this long for it, especially if it’s already finished.

So I just got into night world 2 years ago, I will admit I thought twilight was awesome but then when i discover other books i realized how lame it was. i just can’t believe the torture other fans have to go through waiting 12 years!

I read Twilight first, and I though nothing would replace it. Then I read Vampire Diaries and found out I was wrong. THEN I read Night World, and realized I like NW more than VD AND Twilight.
WEll Im kinda considering myself lucky that I only started to read these about a week ago, Ive bought and finished all 3. I dont have to wait 12 years, but 8 months is still long… Well I am praying right now that I DONT have to wait 12 years, hopefully. But as with Vampire Diaries, her publification date has a SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IS ALWAYS BEING DELAYED even though VD is not from Simon & Schuster…

I can’t believe this…there is no way I’m waiting… sorry but this series just isn’t worth it…now it’s only a 102 day wait for the 6th book for the vampire academy books to come out…now tht’s worth a wait….not that I’m counting or anything… ;P
