Art Gallery Revamp

I'm about 75% done with the new gallery layouts. The Secret Circle, Dark Visions, Forbidden Game and Night of the Solstice galleries have been updated and uploaded. I'm halfway through the Vampire Diaries one, and then I have the Night World one left. These two are large galleries, and I've run out of steam to tackle them tonight.

The main reasons for changing the layouts are to make it easier for me when I'm updating, and also to provide more information about the pictures. Any comments and info the artists have submitted are now visible to everyone.

Now that's almost done, is there anything else anyone can think of that I need to do? Spotted any mistakes? Missing files? Rampaging badgers?

EDIT: VD gallery updated and uploaded. Just the NW gallery left.

PHPFanBase was b0rked (I assume my hosts did some tweaking), so the fanlistings stopped working. I've switched to Enthusiast, and now everying is working just fine again.
First Update of 2008

Took a while for submissions to trickle in, and then I got distracted with the excitement of LJS coming back, but I have finally updated! Yes. I need to fix the fanlistings and get the gallery in order at some point soon, but for now I'll settle for new work added. :D

I hope that LJS's return, and the publication of new work along with the re-issuing of older books will inspire you all to write more fic. ;)

Strange Fate Update: It will be published when the previous books have been re-issued following this schedule.

NW 1-3 - summer, 2008
NW 4-6 - autumn/fall, 2008
NW 7-9 - spring, 2009
NW 10 - SF - summer, 2009 (with a note from LJS that it's probably going to be the length of three books all by itself. :D)

Letter from LJS

Just passing on a message to you all from LJS. She's kind of busy right now, so may not be able to reply to emails as quickly as she has been doing, but has sent this letter to let everyone know how much she appreciates all the mail. :)

Dear readers,

I love you! I've already met many of you (through emails) and I'm so thrilled and just tickled by this experience. I'm awed and delighted, too, but most of all I'm truly humbled by the kindness of all of you who spent precious time to write to me. You can't imagine how grateful I feel and how much I appreciate what all of you have written. I hope I haven't written anything too heavy to weigh down your inboxes. If I weren't such a gabbler, me, then I wouldn't be a writer, you know? So I also thank those who responded to my response! You're angels, truly. And so from my heart: thank you, thank you, thank you!

But here's the thing. I never, ever expected to get so many loving emails. I didn't know, either, how much time it would take out of my writing-time to answer these beautiful emails. And every day instead of making progress, I just get farther and farther behind. (At first I wrote "more and more behind," but that sounds a bit...racy.) So please understand: if you don't get an email back immediately, it doesn't mean anything except that it came after I had collapsed and realized that, for many reasons, I needed a secretary. I've needed one for some time, for lots of things that have nothing to do with emails or letter writing--but the emails helped to me see that I had to get one ASAP with an emphasis on the "S." Life is much easier now that I have one.

Also, please don't think that because I haven't answered your email, I haven't read it. I do read all my emails and letters--that's why I feel as if I know you--and I love, love, love reading them. So...please, please understand, if you don't get a reply from me at once, it isn't that I've forgotten you, or that you're less important than someone else, or that that you'll never get an answer. You will. But I have to figure out how to balance the emails with the other things in my life.

Thank you, again and again!

Lisa

News from L.J. Smith

Cassie at NWCD has had a letter from L.J. Smith with news in it. You can read some of it here, but the main points are that she's working on Strange Fate again, she's been working on some VD stuff, and she now has a website in the works that will contain pictures and stories and other good stuff. I have to say it will be great to have a site where we can get news from LJS as it happens. :D

The site should be going live at some point tomorrow (11th Jan), so keep an eye on it for when it actually happens.

http://www.ljanesmith.net

EDIT: Site is now live.

Devil's Playground Chat

If you're not a member of the Devil's Playground forums, you should be, as it's the most active interactive LJS place on the web, and it would be great to see more people join up and post. Also, newly installed is a chat addon that members can use. Incanto and I have been using it, it's simple to use, and I'm sure that plenty of you would like to lurk around and chat with other fans while browsing and posting to the forums. ;)

I'll be updating with the few submissions I have at some point soon.

Just keeping you updated. I'm not slacking, there's just no update because there are no submissions.

*twiddles thumbs*

If you're looking for a good book to keep you occupied while you wait for The Vampire Diaries reprints, or Strange Fate to be published, check out Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. It's about a teen by the name of Aislinn, who has been born with the curse of seeing faeries. Only they're not kind and cute like they've been portrayed more recently, but twisted and cruel like they are from old fairy tales. Aislinn has spent her entire life making sure they don't notice her (and more importantly making sure that they don't notice that she can see them), only to have it all fall to pieces when Keenan, the Summer King, decides he wants her to be his Queen. And no, it's not actually anything like The Forbidden Game, despite my lame description. :) It's a very good read, at any rate.

Alive and Kicking

Wow. Twilight Tales hit its <s>tenth</s> ninth (I evidently can't count) anniversary in March. Boy, do I feel old. XD

Apologies for the length of time this update took. There really is no excuse, or a reason beyond a heavy bout of apathy - it seems to happen to everyone in the fandom once in a while. However, I gave myself a great big kick up the backside and made myself do the update.

Anyhow, I'd say about 65% of the update is adding the Bloody Quills stuff into the main archive, and 35% is new stuff.

My new update policy is that I'm not going to do updates until I have 5 or more pieces of work to go up in one go. Think of this as an incentive to submit more than one piece of fanwork. ;)

A new art policy is that I won't accept work that is produced with a dollmaker script. Technically, someone else does the art on it, and dolls are built using their art as a basis. I am not comfortable with people claiming that as their own art. If you want to share LJS dolls, you're welcome to post them on LJSque.

I'd like to thank everyone for commiserations and advice about my driving test - I appreciate it. I've got another one coming up in a couple of weeks, so hopefully this time, I'll pass. I have a car now, so I've been able to get practice driving my dad around. :D

Julian Girl - the email address you submitted with your artwork bounces back. Could you please send me a working email address?

Bugs fixed

Thanks to Amelie over on the Code Grrl Forums, those annoying script errors have now been fixed. It seems that HFW have done some tweaking and then neglected to let us know likely problems and fixes. ¬_¬

I'll be working on the site update now.

And sadly, I failed my driving test. But thank you to those who wished me luck. :) I only got 4 minor points, which is a rather impressive low score - we have a max of 15 minor points in the UK, and any more than that means you fail. I accidentally bumped the curb after reversing around a corner, which is an automatic fail. This is silly if you ask me, because everyone bumps curbs, and it doesn't actually pose a threat to anyone or anything but my tyres. Oh well. New test date later this month.

Anyone wondering why things haven't happened... I have my driving test tomorrow, and frankly can't concentrate on anything until I get that out of the way. Failing twice already has made me jittery. Third time lucky, hopefully.

Also, it is cold at my desk. I may start a campaign for kitting me out with thermal clothing. :D
